Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Store on PC - The Verge

Last week, Gearbox officially unveiled that Borderlands 3 was in the works with a colorful debut trailer. Now, the developer has revealed a few more details, including when and where players will be able to jump into the latest game. Borderlands 3 is launching on September 13th on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC — though the PC version will be exclusive to the Epic Store, the budding rival to Steam. Borderlands 3 joins a growing list of Epic Store exclusives, including The Division 2, Metro Exodus, Control, and a trio of Quantic Dream games. Gearbox’s game won’t be exclusive forever, though; the game “will be available on additional PC digital storefronts in April 2020,” according to publisher 2K.

As for the game itself, Borderlands 3 will feature a number of series mainstays — notably, a ridiculous number of guns, lots of vehicles to wreak mayhem in, and a role-playing-style progression — along with several new features. That includes four new playable characters, “seamless” co-op play, and new worlds to explore outside of the mainstay planet Pandora. In keeping with the series’s past, it also features some not-so-subtle box art.

Here’s how Gearbox describes the game:

The originals hooter-looter returns, packing bazillions of guns and an all-new mayhem-fueled adventure. Blast through new worlds and enemies as one of four brand new Vault Hunters — the ultimate treasure-seeking badasses of the Borderlands, each with deep skill trees, abilities, and customization. Play solo or join with friends to take on insane enemies, collect loads of loot, and save your home from the most ruthless cult leaders in the galaxy.

We’ll likely hear quite a bit more about the game between now and its fall release. In the meantime, Borderlands fans can also enjoy a remastered version of the original 2009 game, which is out today on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition Is Out Now - GameSpot

Fans of the Borderlands series can rest easy, as developer Gearbox announced Borderlands 3 during its PAX East panel last week. Also during the panel, Gearbox confirmed the remaster of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. The release date for the remastered Borderlands: GotY is nearly here--here's exactly when it unlocks and how to get it for free on PC.

[Update: Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is out now on PS4 and Xbox One. You can pick it up from the PS4 and Xbox One digital stores right now; if you're waiting for the PC version (free upgrade or otherwise), it'll be live later this afternoon, as noted below. Additionally, Gearbox has shared a bunch of new information about Borderlands 3, including confirmation of its release date: September 13. We also got the first details on its playable characters.]

The official Twitter account confirmed that Borderlands: GotY drops tomorrow, April 3. It'll be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Steam customers who own the existing Game of the Year Edition can download an update for free at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. It's possible to obtain physical copies of the game on consoles, but they're limited to US and Canada stores only.

When the Borderlands: GotY launched in October 2010, it gathered the original Borderlands with all four of its DLC packs--The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution--into one package. This remastered version will do the exact same, but will also bring about some new additions like gameplay tweaks (such as a new minimap, for example), a series of new guns, new character customization options, and more. Gearbox is also altering the campaign's final boss, making it "more engaging, challenging, and rewarding."

Further, an Ultra HD texture pack for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will be available the same day as the Borderlands: GotY drops. According to the official Borderlands website, the UHD texture pack will affect "characters, vehicles, weapons and environments." Gearbox didn't specify how the UHD texture pack will affect the game, so it's unclear if it's receiving more frames per second, higher graphical fidelity, or both.

Borderlands: GotY is currently not live on neither the PlayStation 4 nor Xbox Store. However, it's currently available for pre-order through GameStop for $30 on both platforms.

Google Assistant can now talk like John Legend - TechCrunch

It’s pretty clear why Google opted not to announce this news on Monday, along with those new Gmail additions. When the company first mentioned at I/O that musician John Legend’s voice would be coming to Assistant, honestly, we weren’t sure if the company was joking.

Today, however, that feature becomes as reality — if you want it. If you say “Hey Google, talk like a Legend,” or go into Assistant’s setting, you can swap out your default voice for him. The singer went into the studio to record a select number of features, including answers to queries like:

  • “Are you John Legend?”
  • “What’s your favorite type of music?”
  • “Who is Chrissy Teigen?”
  • “Tell me a joke.”

Legend’s voice is only available for select content, including some “Easter eggs.” Other questions will be answered by the standard Assistant voice. Along with his recordings, Google utilized its WaveNet deep neural network technology to fine to Legend’s voice for Assistant.

Google says “cameo voices” are among Assistant’s most requested features. As such, I wouldn’t be too surprised to hear more from them in the near future.

Google Assistant gets its long-promised John Legend voice - Engadget

Google

It took the better part of a year to show up, but John Legend's Google Assistant cameo is finally available in the US. Ask the AI helper to "talk like a Legend" and the singer's dulcet tones will greet you when issuing certain commands, such as asking about the weather. Naturally, he'll have answers for questions about his own life, such as his wife Chrissy Teigen or his favorite type of music (take a wild guess). Some of those answers will be canned, but others will take advantage of WaveNet speech synthesis to deliver a customized response.

Legend will only be available for a "limited time," and you'll have to be ready to hear the regular Google Assistant voice for those many queries where the crooner isn't available. It still beats hearing the same old dialogue for everything, though, and hints at a future where there's considerably more variety in voice assistants.

Google Assistant launches its first celebrity voice cameo with John Legend - The Verge

Google Assistant is launching its first celebrity voice cameo today, starting with the silky-smooth voice of John Legend. For a limited time, the Grammy-winning artist will sing “Happy Birthday” to you, tell you the weather, and answer questions like “Who is Chrissy Teigen?” right in your own home.

John Legend is one of six new Google Assistant voices that were previewed at Google I/O 2018 where the company gave a preview of its speech synthesis model WaveNet. Powered by Google’s DeepMind artificial intelligence, WaveNet works by sampling human speech and directly modeling audio waveforms from it, creating more realistic-sounding voices. “WaveNet allowed us to shorten the studio time, and the model can actually capture the richness of his voice,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said onstage.

Google had Legend record answers to a few select prompts, like “Hey, Google, serenade me” or “Hey, Google, are we just ordinary people?” There are a couple of Easter eggs in there as well, but most responses will continue to be in a regular Assistant voice.

To activate Legend’s voice, users can say, “Hey, Google, talk like a Legend” or go to Assistant voice in their Settings to switch to his voice. The feature is only available in English in the US, but this is likely just the beginning of Google adding more celebrity cameos in more regions.

The Morning After: Google+ says goodbye - Engadget

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

Even if you didn't get tickets to see Avengers: Endgame, there might be a better way to experience Iron Man's suit. Also, it's time to say goodbye to Google+, and Boston Dynamics is upgrading its definitely-not-killer robots.

Why wait for Endgame?'Iron Man VR' is as close to being Tony Stark as you're likely to get

This game puts players behind the mask in a wild first-person adventure facing off against marquee Marvel villains. According to Andrew Tarantola, "You can't ask for a more immersive superhero experience."

It's already gone.Farewell, Google+: You didn't fail, you just didn't succeed

Google's attempt at a social network wasn't a complete failure -- we still have Photos and Hangouts.

Two years after launch, this game looks a lot different.'No Man's Sky VR' is the purest way to explore the universe

This summer, the gigantic No Man's Sky Beyond update goes live, bringing three major features to the game, two of which are public knowledge: MMO-style mechanics and, announced just last week, VR support. According to creator Sean Murray, VR "just feels like a good fit."

It could come to the US under a different name.Nokia's X71 phone has a hole-punch display and a 48-megapixel camera

The X71 is a mid-range Android One phone throughout, from its Snapdragon 660 processor and LCD display right down to its near-stock version of Android Pie. It also packs 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage and a 3,500mAh battery. But the major talking points are its hole-punch camera in front and 48-megapixel Zeiss camera on the back.

Got your ticket yet?'Avengers: Endgame' pre-sales crashed movie ticket sites

Many of those trying to make sure they can see the Marvel blockbuster as soon as possible were greeted with error codes on several ticket sites in the US, UK and Canada (including AMC and Cineplex), while others were faced with virtual lines of more than an hour.

The Handle robot is first in line for an upgrade.Boston Dynamics' acquisition will help its robots see in 3D

Boston Dynamics took a big step toward bringing its box-moving (and running, jumping, dishwashing) robots into the real world with its acquisition of Kinema Systems, the Menlo Park-based company that uses deep learning to give robotic arms the 3D vision they need to locate and move boxes. The robot can recognize different products and handle boxes of different sizes, even if they're not perfectly level.

But wait, there's more...

WhatsApp is now rolling out one very important privacy feature - Phone Arena

Groups are a vital part of WhatsApp, although as the Facebook-owned messaging platform has grown in popularity so has the number of unwanted group chats. But today, after testing them for a while on iOS, WhatsApp is rolling out new privacy settings which should help control this.

Until now, group admins could add any WhatsApp user to a group without needing their consent – the only requirement being that the user is a contact in the admin’s phone. As part of this latest rollout, though, WhatsApp users will now be able to choose which people can add them to groups.

In order to access the new feature, users need to simply head over to the Settings menu within WhatsApp and tap Accounts. Then a quick tap on Privacy and later Groups will present users with the choice of three options: ‘Everyone,’ ‘My Contacts,’ or ‘Nobody.’ Each one is pretty self-explanatory with ‘Nobody’ meaning users will have to approve every single group with ‘Everyone’ allows users to leave their group invitations completely open, as they are today.

WhatsApp’s latest privacy feature will begin rollout out today to a select number of users before expanding globally across the coming weeks.
