Luigi's Mansion 3 Is Getting Paid Multiplayer DLC - GameSpot

Luigi's Mansion 3 is getting paid DLC, with two multiplayer expansions coming that will expand the game out further. You can buy the multiplayer pack on the eShop now for $10. Although it'll arrive in two parts, there's only a single purchase to make, which will net you everything--you can't buy them separately.

The first pack, due by April 30, 2020, will contain three new ScreamPark minigames. It also features three new floor themes for the ScareScraper, six new themed ghosts, and three new outfits, including a knight get-up, a mummy wrap, and a giant bouffant hair-do. Nintendo hasn't yet announced what the second pack will contain, but it's due by July 31, 2020.

Anyone who buys the DLC now will get immediate access to a new flashlight that will shine the shape of Polterpup's face onto any surface it is pointed at, which can be accessed from the in-game laboratory.

Luigi's Mansion 3 received an 8/10 in our review, and reviewer Kevin Knezevic wrote that the multiplayer modes are "comparatively shallow and lack the same appeal as the main game."

Sony's DualShock 4 attachment adds customizable buttons around back - Engadget

Sony

Sony is getting into the controller customization game late into the PS4's lifespan. The company has unveiled a DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment that, as the name implies, lets you map two of the gamepad's buttons to easier-to-reach locations on the back. If you'd rather not lift your fingers to reload or perform a special attack, you don't have to. You can specify up to three different profiles, and an OLED screen on the back illustrates your current button setup.

The add-on works with "all of your favorite" PS4 and PlayStation VR games, Sony said. There's also a headset passthrough to help you talk with your squad mates.

This won't be a last-minute holiday gift. Sony is shipping the Back Button Attachment to North America on January 23rd for $30 ($40 CAD), and Europe won't see it until February 14th for €30. The price is low enough that it might be worthwhile if you're the competitive sort and would rather not replace whole controllers (or go with an unofficial solution) just to speed up your input. With that said, the timing isn't great. It's no secret that the PlayStation 5 is less than a year away, and it's not clear whether the future system's controller will support this accessory. If you intend on using the Back Button Attachment for a long time, you'll just have to hope that Sony designed it with next-gen controllers in mind.

New Sony Gadget Adds Two More Buttons To The Dualshock 4 - Kotaku

One of the most prevalent features in high-end third-party PlayStation 4 controllers is rear paddle buttons. Sony’s new Back Button Attachment, coming in January for $30, adds a pair of programmable buttons to the back of the Dualshock 4.

The Back Button Attachment, announced today via the PlayStation Blog, connects to the bottom of the Dualshock 4 via the utility port, with a pass-through audio jack so players can still plug in their headphones.

Once plugged in, players have access to two paddle-like buttons, which can be remapped to any function on the Dualshock 4. It sports a dedicated remapping button, as well as an OLED display to keep track of button assignments.

It’s all sorts of fancy. I like the way it makes the Dualshock 4 look like it’s sporting a large package. That generates confidence, which is very important in competitive situations.

Sony’s Dualshock 4 Back Button Attachment goes on sale on January 23.

The Morning After: Cadillac's 38-inch in-car OLED - Engadget

2021 Escalade dashboard Cadillac

Hey, good morning! You look fabulous.

It's the season for staying indoors, away from the cold, and streaming your favorite shows and movies. For my family, it means I have to sit through Elf and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation -- whether I want to or not. But now that Disney+ has arrived, alongside even more made-for-Netflix Christmas movies of questionable quality, you could watch holiday movies the entire season and not run out. For me? I'm more interested in Studio Ghibli's movie collection, now available on demand from iTunes, Google Play and, er, Vudu.

Spirited Away introduced me to Japanese animation and is partially to blame for me wrangling my way to live and work in Japan (twice!). Until now, the movies have kept their price on DVDs and Blu-rays, and I've avoided building out my own library. The benefit is three-fold: prices might come down, I can build out a bookshelf of my favorites and, finally, I might actually watch Tales from Earthsea.

Visa's fraud disruption teams are investigating several incidents in which a hacking group known as Fin8 defrauded fuel dispenser merchants. In each case, the attackers gained access to the POS networks via malicious emails and other unknown means. They then installed POS scraping software that exploited the lack of security in old-school magnetic stripe technology.

Just missed.SpaceX tried to catch both halves of a Falcon 9 nose cone

The good news is that SpaceX successfully launched the JCSAT-18/Kacific-1 satellite and safely returned the rocket's first stage to a waiting drone ship. Unfortunately, an attempt to catch both halves of the rocket's fairing "narrowly" missed two waiting ships. Of course, there's always a next time, and according to Elon Musk, a soft landing suggests the parts could still be reusable.

The next generation of GM's luxury SUV won't debut until next year, but we already got a peek at the interior. The 2021 Escalade will feature a 38-inch curved OLED screen that appears to stretch along the dashboard, and Cadillac says its pixel density is higher than your 4K TV.

Updated for the end of the year. The best games for PS4

This week, we're updating our best games guides across platforms. First up, the PlayStation 4. No major changes this quarter, but a lot of games have seen big discounts both on Black Friday and in the run-up to the holiday season. Horizon, especially, is a steal.

Apple already offered a similar annual plan for music streaming.Apple Arcade is now available as a $50 yearly subscription

Apple Arcade is adding an annual subscription that offers two free months of the service. The $50 (or £50) sub replicates Apple Music's yearly plan and makes the most sense if you fully expect to stay subscribed and don't mind paying up front. Not sure what to play? We're working on a guide to the best games on Apple Arcade, coming later this week.

Update your 'Mandalorian' schedule. What's on TV this week: 'Joker,' 'Mr. Robot' and 'The Witcher'

This week, the billion-dollar villain movie Joker is available digitally, while Netflix is preparing to release season one of its The Witcher adaptation. Also, you can buy anything from the Studio Ghibli catalog on various online video stores, and if you're planning to watch The Mandalorian on Disney+ this week, remember it's coming out on a different day. To avoid a conflict with Rise of Skywalker, the episode is out on Wednesday morning at 3 AM instead of the usual Friday morning release.

But wait, there's more...

OnePlus to unveil first ever concept phone at CES 2020 next month - Android Police

OnePlus turns 6 today, and it's come a long way since its first budget flagship killer. We now get four phones from the Chinese brand each year, including higher-specced Pro models, but we've not yet had the pleasure of a OnePlus concept phone — until now.

To celebrate its 6th anniversary, OnePlus has announced the forthcoming announcement (yep, that's a thing now) of its first concept device at next month's CES 2020 trade show. A special event will be held at the Wynn Las Vegas from January 7 to 10 where the experimental phone will be shown off in all its supposed glory.

The OnePlus Concept One will apparently serve as "a vision of both new technology and an alternate design approach for the future of smartphones." It's also been made clear that this won't be the last such model to come from the company. Whether or not this technological exploration will have any bearing on what we see in the upcoming OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro remains to be seen, but let's hope it's not just another flimsy folding phone with little chance of becoming a compelling reality.

OnePlus Announces Its First Concept Phone Will Debut at CES as Part of its 6th Anniversary Celebration

December 17th, 2019, Shenzhen: OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau recently revealed that the global mobile technology company will host its own special event at CES next month. Today, on the anniversary of its founding six years ago, the company has announced that it will be introducing its first-ever concept phone, the OnePlus Concept One, at CES 2020.

For the past six years, OnePlus has been striving to share the absolute best in technology with the world, producing a total of 13 industry-leading smartphones. With this year’s OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus delivered the world’s first QHD+ AMOLED 90Hz display and set a new bar for the industry.

OnePlus’ aspirations in technology have evolved from creating peerless flagship phones to finding the true potential of every technology. Now, on the arrival of its sixth anniversary, OnePlus has formally announced that it will unveil its first ever concept phone, the OnePlus Concept One.

The name itself, Concept One, is a clear promise that this device is only the first in a series to come and shows OnePlus’ commitment to applied, innovative technology - bringing users an ever smoother, faster, and more “burdenless” experience. The OnePlus Concept One, demonstrates a vision of both new technology and alternate design approach for the future of smartphones.

The OnePlus Concept One special event will be held from January 7 to 10 2020, from 10 AM to 5 PM (until 4PM on 9-10 January), at the Wynn Las Vegas.

JBL’s new solar-powered headphones promise ‘virtually unlimited’ battery life - Circuit Breaker

JBL is crowdfunding a new pair of headphones that use an array of solar panels on their headband to offer potentially unlimited battery life under the right conditions. The Reflect Eternal headphones are live now on IndieGoGo, and can be preordered for $99 with an expected ship date of October 2020.

The crowd-funding campaign is making some pretty ambitious claims about how much extra charge the headphones’ Exeger Powerfoyle solar charging material can get you. JBL says that wearing the headphones outside for just 2.5 hours a day could be enough to get you “virtually unlimited playtime” between charges, for example. However, in order to achieve this it sounds like you’ll have to wear the headphones on a relatively sunny day. Apparently the sweet spot is a lux brightness value of at least 50,000, which Wikipedia suggests requires direct sunlight.

JBL claims that the headphones can even charge from lighting indoors, although that’ll be far slower than under direct sunlight.

Outside of their solar-charging capabilities, the Reflect Eternals work like any other pair of wireless headphones. They come with support for both Google Assistant and Alexa, and also feature external microphones for when you want to hear what’s going on around you without having to take the headphones off. Oh, and naturally they can still charge over USB as a backup for when the sun disappears.

JBL isn’t the only company to have experimented with adding solar cells to consumer electronics. Outside of the solar-powered calculators I used to use in school, the most successful implementation I’ve come across are Logitech’s solar powered keyboards, which I’ve used on and off again for years without ever having to re-charge. Garmin also announced a smartwatch earlier this year that uses a built-in solar panel to extend its battery life by a couple of days under the right circumstances.

iPhone 11 Pro knocked out in first round of MKBHD’s blind smartphone camera test - 9to5Mac

The iPhone 11 Pro triple-camera system re-established Apple’s crown as a critic’s choice this year for smartphone cameras, but Marques Brownlee’s blind Twitter survey always turns up some interesting results.

Last year, the iPhone lost to a BlackBerry … and for 2019, the iPhone 11 Pro didn’t make it past the first round losing to a photo taken by the OnePlus 7T Pro.

Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial

MKBHD’s test format involves taking photos on sixteen different phones and then uploading those pics to Twitter in blind polls for his followers to pick their favorites. The lower voted photos are knocked out and the winners go onto successive rounds.

The iPhone only participated in the first round, as it was immediately eliminated. Here is the photo it took compared to its competition, the OnePlus 7T Pro.

The iPhone cast a blue tint over the scene, whereas the OnePlus 7T Pro was more yellow. The iPhone’s white balance is certainly questionable here. The iPhone also left more of Brownlee’s face in shadow than the OnePlus camera system. In general, brighter photos win these polls.

The iPhone 11 Pro’s photo here is not the best photo that phone can take but it’s not awful. As always, the question of what is a ‘good’ photo is subjective. In this case, the lower lightning level on the iPhone photo clearly hurt it. It also seems a little flat between the foreground subject and the background.

As Brownlee only posts the images to Twitter, which heavily compresses uploads, examination of photos at a pixel level for detail is essentially impossible. Whilst having access to the full-res versions would probably affect decision making substantially, the existing test is pretty relevant to today’s world where most images are merely uploaded to social media sites anyway.

The overall winner of the camera test was the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. You can watch the full video here:
