As video creators, we are usually working with large high-resolution video files, large bitrates and running intensive tasks like rendering and processing video effects. Working on the road or out of the studio usually means you can’t always have a powerful desktop around.
At Computex 2019, Taiwan, NVIDIA has introduced NVIDIA Studio. A program specifically targeted at creators who need the best in speed and performance.
NVIDIA Studio includes a new specification of RTX Studio laptops, designed to deliver maximum performance for a host of creative applications powered by new RTX Quadro cards and RTX GeForce GPUs.
This news comes days after Apple announced the MacBook Pro 2019 refresh which uses with an AMD Radeon Pro 560X but is configurable to the Radeon Pro Vega 16 ($250 USD upgrade) or Vega 20 (+$350 USD upgrade).
RTX Studio Laptops
If you were hoping for NVIDIA support to come back to Apple in the upcoming modular Mac Pro, this is probably a sign that you shouldn’t get your hopes up too high.
The new RTX Studio laptops need to meet a minimum specification and come with NVIDIA Studio drivers.
Minimum Specifications
- GPU: GeForce RTX 2060, Quadro RTX 3000 or higher
- CPU: Intel Core i7 (H series) or equivalent or higher
- RAM: 16 GB or more
- SSD: 512 GB SSD or more
- Display: 1080p or 4K with 100% sRGB, 300 nits, DeltaE <2
Depending on the application, NVIDIA is touting significant performance boosts when compared to the MacBook Pro with the Vega 20. Speeding up video editing, rendering & intensive tasks by up to 20x.
For RED users, the recent developments with real-time support for RED Cine-X is a massive change to the workflow.
Since the launch of the RTX cards last year, NVIDIA has been touting about the real-time raytracing but it’s not only for games. In the past week, Matt Workman has been showing the differences that raytracing has when pre visualising in CineTracer.
Below is a list of all the RTX Studio laptops that will be launching shortly. Prices begin from $1,599 for the lower end models with the RTX 2060. You can expect prices to significantly higher with the high-end RTX Quadro models.
